WhatsApp QR code for your shop: 9 places to put it and get more orders
How to make a WhatsApp QR code that works, print tips, 9 places to put it in your shop, and how to turn scans into repeat orders.
Your customers walk past your counter, read your menu, carry your bag home and keep your visiting card. Each of those is a chance to start a WhatsApp chat, if there's a QR code to scan.
Here's how to make a WhatsApp QR code that works, where to put it, and how to turn those scans into repeat orders.
Why a WhatsApp QR code works so well in India
- Everyone already scans QR codes. UPI taught the whole country to point a phone camera at a code.
- No typing. One scan opens a chat with your shop, with a ready message.
- It builds your customer list. Every scan is a customer who can get your offers and updates on WhatsApp, if they agree to.
Make your QR code
- Open the free WhatsApp Link & QR Generator.
- Enter your WhatsApp Business number and a short message, like "Hi! I want to see today's offers."
- Click Download QR (PNG) and send it to your printer.
Print tips
- Make it at least 2 × 2 cm; 4–5 cm or more for standees and walls.
- Keep a white border around the code, and print it dark on a light background.
- Always add a line of text above it: "Scan to order on WhatsApp". A code without a reason gets ignored.
- Test the printed code with two or three phones before you print 500 copies.
9 places to put your WhatsApp QR code
- Billing counter. "Scan to get your bill and offers on WhatsApp."
- Restaurant table. "Scan to order or call the waiter."
- Menu card and takeaway menu. "Order on WhatsApp for home delivery."
- Product packaging and carry bags. "Reorder in one tap."
- Visiting cards. It's much easier than saving a number.
- Shop window or shutter. It works even when you're closed (see below).
- Flyers, newspaper inserts and posters. It shows which campaign brings chats.
- Delivery parcels. "Scan to share feedback or report a problem."
- Clinic or salon reception. "Scan to book your next appointment."
Tip: use a different pre-filled message for each place, like "Hi, from the table QR" or "Hi, from the flyer", so you know which ones work.
What happens after the scan matters most
A QR code brings more chats, including at night, on Sundays and in rush hours. If nobody replies, the customer leaves. So:
- Set a greeting message for new chats and an away message for after hours. You can write both in seconds with our WhatsApp Auto-Reply Writer.
- Add your catalogue in WhatsApp Business, so customers can browse while they wait.
- Ask before sending offers. Send marketing messages only to people who agreed to get them. It's good manners, WhatsApp's own rule, and part of India's data law.
- If you get more than 20–30 chats a day, consider an AI assistant that answers prices, stock and timings instantly and passes serious buyers to you. Not sure if it's worth it? Our lost-customers calculator shows what missed chats cost you.
The bottom line
A printed WhatsApp QR code costs almost nothing and works 24×7. Put it where customers already look, give them a reason to scan, and make sure someone, or something, replies.
