How to get more Google reviews for your business in India (the right way)

Google's review rules, how to get your review link, when and how to ask, and how to make it a daily habit without breaking any rules.

When someone searches "best dentist near me" or "AC repair in Noida", the businesses with more good reviews get more calls. Yet most happy customers never leave one, simply because nobody asked.

Here's how to get a steady flow of genuine Google reviews, and the mistakes that can get reviews removed.

First, the rules (don't skip this)

Google's review policy prohibits:

  • Paying or rewarding for reviews. No discounts, freebies or cashback in exchange for a review.
  • Asking only happy customers. This is called "review gating", for example sending the link only to people who said they were satisfied.
  • Fake reviews: from staff, family, friends posing as customers, or bought from review sellers.
  • Reviewing competitors or asking others to.

Breaking these can get reviews removed and your profile restricted. Under India's consumer protection rules, fake reviews can also count as misleading the public. The good news: you don't need tricks.

Step 1: Get your review link

  1. Open your Google Business Profile, by searching your business name on Google while logged in, or in the Google Business app.
  2. Click Ask for reviews (or "Get more reviews").
  3. Copy the short link.

Step 2: Ask at the right moment

Ask when the customer is happiest:

  • right after a successful delivery, treatment or service;
  • when they thank you or praise you;
  • after a repeat purchase.

Step 3: Make it effortless

Send a WhatsApp message after the sale:

Thank you for choosing us, Priya! 😊 If you have a minute, a quick Google review helps other customers find us: [link]. Thank you!

Then add the link everywhere customers already look:

  • A QR code at the counter, on the bill or on the packaging: "Enjoyed it? Scan to review us on Google." Any free QR maker can turn your review link into a code.
  • Your bill or invoice footer: add the short link.
  • Your email signature, if you run a service business.

Send the same request to every customer, not just the ones you think are happy. That's both the rule and the honest approach.

Step 4: Reply to every review

New customers read your replies. Thank every reviewer, and answer complaints calmly. See our guide on how to reply to Google reviews, and use the free Review Reply Writer to draft replies in seconds.

Step 5: Make it a habit

  • Set a simple target, such as one review request per customer, every day.
  • Train your staff to mention it at the counter: "Aapko accha laga toh Google pe review zaroor dena."
  • Automate the WhatsApp request. An AI assistant or a simple automation can send the message after each completed order or appointment.

What about bad reviews?

They will come, and that's fine. A profile with only perfect reviews can look suspicious. A few honest complaints with calm, helpful replies make the good reviews more believable.

The bottom line

Ask every customer, at the right time, with one tap, and never pay or filter. Do that for three months, and your Google profile will start working as your best salesperson.
